Top Business Leaders & Policy-Makers Gather to Honor Qatar’s Minister of Energy in Washington, DC

September 27, 2013 Washington, DC – On Friday, the Embassy of the State of Qatarand US-QatarBusinessCouncil with co-hosts ExxonMobil and Occidental Petroleum, gathered more than 150 top international business leaders and policy-makers for a reception and dinner honoring His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada Minister of Energy for the State of Qatar at Georgetown’s historic Café Milano.
Among the attendees were representatives from the United States Congress, US Department of State, Office of the United States Trade Representative, US Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor’s Office of Philadelphia and Council member companies and other supporting partners.
After a reception that gave the attendees an opportunity to meet and speak with the Minister and other guests, the dinner began with a welcome from Council President Ambassador Patrick Theros. Mr. Rob Franklin, President of ExxonMobil Gas & Power Marketing Company and Mr. Sandy Lowe, Vice President and President of Oxy Oil and Gas, the dinner’s co-hosts and representing two of the Council’s founding members, introduced Dr. Al-Sada.
Ambassador Theros highlighted the Minister’s impressive background and lengthy career working in the Qatari government. He also noted the impressive changes and innovations that have been undertaken by Qatar since his tenure as ambassador.
During his address, His Excellency Dr. Al-Sada reminded the guests of Qatar’s early investment into the development of LNG in the US and the long-standing relationship between US and Qatar in the energy fields and beyond. He noted that Qatar’s investments in energy will continue but it are the investments in its citizens that will truly help it grow.
Guests were treated to the warm hospitality and wonderful food of Café Milano before receiving the event’s closing remarks from Matt Fox, Executive Vice President Exploration and Production of ConocoPhillips.
In addition to co-hosts ExxonMobil and Occidental Petroleum, Council members ConocoPhillips, Qatar Airways, Lockheed Martin, Chevron Corporation, Parsons, and Fluor as well as Shell Corporation also sponsored the event.
